Leading Urban Gospel Industry Trade Publication U-ZONE Magazine Announces Restructuring
Seeking New Writers, Columnists, and Sales Force

(Oakland, CA)
U-ZONE Magazine publisher Curtis Jermany recently announced a planned restructuring of the popular urban gospel industry trade publication. In 3 years, U-ZONE Magazine has emerged as the only trade mag offering readers inside access to emerging industry trends, legal tips, and in-depth industry knowledge from highly sought after gospel music execs such as Max Siegel, Lee Jerkins, Phyllis Caddell, Tia Smith and many more.

In addition to increasing the editorial and advertising staffs with new writers, columnists, and sales people, the restructuring will also focus on recruiting regional correspondents to report on local trends and events. "For the past 3 years U-ZONE has successfully informed and inspired readers to improve their own music ministry by giving them an inside look at artists and industry execs who are making it work," said Jermany. "We feel that by adding a focus on regional trends to this mix it will facilitate the spread of hot local acts and events to a national platform."

U-ZONE magazine is now seeking talented and dedicated staff for the following positions:
-Writers for features, interviews, and music reviews
-Columnists in tune with the technical aspects of the music industry, such as producer tools and gadgets
-Regional correspondents to report on local trends and events
-Commissioned based sales staff for ad sales and marketing packages
-S.F. & Houston Area Based interns for all areas of magazine production and distribution
-Street Team Reps in Houston TX & San Francisco Bay Areas

The first issue after the restructuring will be released in January 2009 in time for both the Stellar Awards and the Holy Hip Hop Awards. This high profile issue is slated for a double cover and will be the official magazine of the Holy Hip Hop Awards
AD & EDITORIAL DEADLINE: December 5, 2008

Urban Gospel Alliance Visionary Steps Down to Help Others Step Up
Curtis Jermany Refocuses Efforts to Broaden the Reach of Independent Artists

(Oakland, CA) Curtis Jermany, the visionary of the innovative artist organization Urban Gospel Alliance, recently announced that he will be stepping down as CEO in order to better assist artists to successfully reach the urban gospel marketplace. Through GZ Underground, an online marketing and promotional firm that offers high quality e-blast, design, writing, and photography services at an affordable cost – Jermany plans to bring the image of independents up to par with that of any major label artist.

“The best way for me to continue to be a champion for urban artists is to fill the gap for what they need the most,” comments Jermany. “Over the past 5 years that I’ve headed up UGA, I know that artists have a sincere desire to present their ministry with excellence – but the type of high quality marketing materials and better focused promotional campaigns needed to capture market share is usually financially out of reach.”

Well thanks to the expanded services of GZ Underground Jermany is now focusing his energy towards, a professional image will be more than attainable by independent artists, small businesses, and ministries. The new services offered by GZ Underground will include graphic design, press release writing, and flash-based EPKs.

UGA members will benefit from this transition, as Jermany and the new CEO of UGA, Ursula D. Edwards, have pledged to continue to work closely together for the betterment of the organization and to broaden the reach of the entire urban gospel community. Edwards is the former Georgia chapter Director of UGA, and the former National Chapter Rep Liaison. “Ursula is more than capable of heading up UGA. By her holding a variety of positions within UGA, in addition to owning her own successful urban gospel entertainment company, she is completely ready to take UGA to where it was always intended to go,” notes Jermany.

Insisting that this is a refocusing – not a retirement – Jermany remains as passionate about urban gospel music as he was 5 years ago when he first founded UGA. The move also includes plans for a San Francisco area urban gospel radio show.
“This is just where I’m needed most, these are the skills God has gifted me with that are to be used to increase the exposure of all those with artistic ministry gifts,” reflects Jermany.

URBAN GOSPEL ALLIANCE FOUNDER AND CEO, CURTIS JERMANY, PASSES THE LEADERSHIP TORCH

As the world watches as the Olympic Torch is passed from country to country, another torch is being passed in the world of gospel entertainment. .

Urban Gospel Alliance (UGA) founder and CEO, Curtis Jermany , has decided the time is right for him to step back and focus on family and other endeavors, including what has been a passion for some time photography with the launching of GZ Photography. The reigns are being passed to the Atlanta Georgia Chapter Representative, Ursula D. Edwards, who has been with UGA since it’s early beginnings in 2003.

This is one of many new beginnings for Edwards, who was recently wed to 3HP Records label owner and UGA Maryland Representative, Troy Edwards. Ursula has filled numerous leadership roles within the organization since its inception. Starting as Marketing Director in 2003 then she was promoted to Chapter Director the following year. Within another year she would become National Marketing Director, National Representative Liaison, and eventually second in command, only to the CEO. All this while running her own business as CEO of Manifestation, LLC – an Atlanta based marketing and research firm.

In it’s short 5-year history, UGA has created a climate of recognition, acceptance, and camaraderie. The leadership, chapter representatives, ministry partners, and other supporters, have worked hard to live up to its promise of bridging the gap and bringing light to the streets.

Though many challenges lay ahead. Ursula and the entire UGA Team is committed to following through with Mr. Jermany’s vision and the call of God. “Our first order of business will be to set a good foundation – we’re going global…,” states Ursula,”…The team will be meeting soon to discuss focus and direction, we want to hear from stakeholders to develop strong partnerships, and talk to artists to get their input.”

The new CEO has big plans and is pledged to add a great deal more to an already great organization. A new web site is being designed for the coming months, more benefits and services for members, a new name—one that reflects the reach and scope of The Good News—Urban Gospel Alliance International, Inc., as well as a non-profit entity, the Urban Gospel Alliance Foundation, which will institute a scholarship program among other things.

 About The Urban Gospel Alliance
The Urban Gospel Alliance (UGA) is a Gospel music industry organization with a focus on the urban market. It is a forum and platform for all facets of urban gospel music--contemporary gospel, holy hip hop, inspirational, gospel jazz, neo-soul, and reggae. Because we realize that independent label artists have more limitations than major label artists and a greater necessity for a forum of this nature, our focus will be on independent label artists, however, we will by no means exclude or alienate our major label brothers and sisters that are putting it down for Christ.

Urban Gospel Alliance Mixer during Holy Hip Hop Week Review

By all accounts The 2008 UGA/Holy Hip Hop “Rhymes & Runway” made an impact on all who came out on a stormy, icy, and cold Thursday night at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta-Marietta—A Roberts Hotel (African-American owned) getting the 2008 Holy Hip Hop Weekend off to a great start.

The focus of this year's mixer was strategically designed to draw a new audience. Various Kingdom designers and clothiers were invited to participate in the monumental event which featured some of the hottest artists repin' the Kingdom. Artists like Canton Jones, Mr. Del, Mark J, Mouthpiece Mp3, Mark Daniel, Messenja, Cash Hollistah, K-Bizzy, Big Ran, IQ, Big Box, Richard Dauphin, Anti-Social, Salah, Erica Cumbo, Rai, 31 10, La Toya, and the fabulous Mrs. Ramona Jones-artists from various genres of Urban Gospel music and Holy Hip Hop.

The event got off to a rousing start to a standing room only crowd of over 300 with DJ E Double U (of Go Ye DJs) and DJ Dex on the 1s and 2s. A few randomly selected conference attendees were chosen for on the spot give-a-ways of exclusive designs and valuable merchandise.

Fashion Coordinators Keiera Jones of Luv Jonz Fashion Productions and Donnell Duncan of The Christian Socialites planned and assembled a stellar group of designers, stylists, models, and fashion personnel that executed in excellence!

Of course this event would not have been successful had it not been for the Kingdom designers who participated. Designers featured included Like Christ Wear, Purity Clothing, Vintage Clothing, Kingdom Klothes, Guda, Glam Furs, Holy Couture, Jennifer Sutton, E-Styles, and Brown Angle Apparel.

Event visionary Ursula Frederick-Brown, UGA-Georgia was joined by other UGA Reps; Apostle Troy Edwards of Baltimore; DJ Flame of New York (which provided a live streaming online feed to viewers from around the world via Hello World TV and radio support via WCHR Radio-“The Voice of Harlem”); Gerald Peoples (DJ G) of St. Louis; and Jonathan Holley of Washington, DC.

Because of the overwhelming response, talks and plans are being formulated for a Rhymes & Runway Tour.

Don't sleep, we have already begun discussions of how next year’s event will top this year’s event! Stay tuned and watch your emails.

Hip hop is more than music; it's a culture; a way of life, in which fashion plays a vital role. Hip-hop has the ability to take a negative and turn it into a positive-a profitable business-a ministry. Hip-hop Gospel embraces urban youth, young adults, and the young at heart (those whose influence shape the fashion industry) to positively impact and transform their lives.
